It was all glitz, glamour and beauty at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, Saturday evening, when stars from Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada filmdom gathered for the annual Filmfare Awards Nite. It was a pleasant assembling of all film stars under one roof.

The 51st edition of Filmfare Awards, considered one of the prestigious honor in the film industry, was compered by actor Vivek in his inimitable style. Every time, he took to stage, he was greeted with a huge round of applause. Not just honors and awards, but also variety entertainment shows with popular actresses rendering peppy dance numbers formed part of the event. The likes of Jyothika, Kiran, Sridevi Vijayakumar and Malavika performed for a few dance numbers.

The Tamil blockbuster Pithamagan directed by Bala with Vikram and Surya in the lead reaped as many as six Filmfare awards this year in the Tamil films category. Vikram was presented the best actor award by Tollywood star Venkatesh, while Laila won the best actress award for Pithamagan and was presented the award by actor Vijay. While Bala was given the best director award by noted producer AVM Saravanan, Surya received the best supporting actor award for the movie from director Goutham Menon. Sangeetha, who was adjudged the best supporting actress for her performance in Pithamagan received the award from director Cheran.

Director Dharani presented the award for best music composer to Harris Jeyaraj for his foot-tapping numbers in Khaaka Khaaka and Jeevan received the award for best performance in the negative role in Khaakha Khaakha from actor Silambarasan. Besides, awards were presented for best actor, actresses and technicians of other South Indian languages too.

The highlight of the award presentation ceremony was the honoring of noted classical and playback singer K J Yesudoss and actress Vijayashanthi with Lifetime Achievement Awards. They were presented the awards by actor Kamal Haasan and producer Ramanaidu. Both of them thanked film buffs and the entire film fraternity for recognizing their contribution to the industry with a coveted prize.

The function would go down in the hearts and minds of hundreds of film buffs who gathered at the indoor auditorium for they had a glimpse of their favorite actor and actresses.
