Expectations

Akshay Kumar's 'OMG' and Aamir Khan's 'PK', showed us the real picture of the fake god man’s and their malpractices. Something similar was also attempted by actors like Dev Anand, Amitabh Bachchan, Govinda and few others. Sadly, none of the latter ones films worked, but 'OMG' and 'PK' managed to hit the right nerve with their audience. The latest to join such types of films is 'Global Baba' which has been in making for a long time and finally gets a proper release. There are no such expectations except for all those who have seen its promos or read about the film. Many times, films with such low expectations, manage to surprise its audience based on its content.

Story

'Global Baba' is a story of a notorious criminal Chillam Pehlwaan (Abhimanyu Singh) who,while hiding from the police inspector Jacob (Ravi Kishan), meets his old companion Damru (Pankaj Tripathi), who introduces him to the world of god man's. Chillam Pehlwaan reinvents himself as Global Baba and sets his base in a peaceful town. The popularity of Global Baba keeps diluting the popularity of the local minister Dallu Yadav (Akhilendra Mishra) due to which Dallu Yadav assigns evacuation orders for the illegal construction of Global Baba's ashram. This leads to riots in the city. Inspector Jacob gets transferred out there to manage the law and order situation. He recognizes Chillam and tries his level best to expose the fake world of Global Baba.

The 'Glitz' Factor

The story is interesting and has an intriguing plot attached to it. There are many interesting scenes involving Abhimanyu Singh, Pankaj Tripathi, Akhilendra Mishra and Ravi Kishan. These scenes manage to keep you glued to the silver screen.Director Manoj Tewari comes up with an interesting script which needed more detail and had full potential of becoming a path-breaking film. Still, the movie has its own merits and more of the high points than lower ones. Abhimanyu Singh looks highly powerful in his role and does full justice to it. Pankaj Tripathi is hilarious and lends good support. Sandeepa Dhar makes her presence. Akhilendra Mishra is fine in his part. Sanjay Mishra is wasted. Ravi Kishan adds the interest factor in the film.

The 'Non-Glitz' Factor

One can find some similarities between Dev Anand's 'Swami Dada' and Amitabh Bachchan's 'Jadugar'. The whole plot of Abhimanyu Singh and PankajTripathi reminds you of Amrish Puri - Jhonny Lever track from ‘Jadugar’. Also, the screenplay is presented in typical 90's manner with lots of diversions and sub-plots.The finale part seemed a bit unjustified and ends abruptly. Sandeepa Dhar's track dilutes the flow of the film followed by the repetitive scenes. The music is not up to the mark and fails to connect with the flow of the film.SandeepaDhar ends up being a victim of a weak character. There is nothing new in this film.

Final 'Glitz'

'Global Baba' is a decent watch with its share of negative points. The movie is engaging and has good performances by its lead actors. It only falls low due to lack of novelty factor and a couple of side tracks, making this global baba work as a local baba.
