Yesterday it was said that the AIADMK General Secretaty V.K.Sasikala will be sworn in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu today (February 7, 2017). But now it looks highly unlikely and the accession of Sasikala to the top post of the TN Government might take a few more days.

As per the norms the Governor Vidyasagar Rao should formally invite Sasikala who is having the support of all the 136 MLAs of the ruling AIADMK party to form the government and swear in the new council of ministers.

However the Governor who has accepted O.Panneerselvam's resignation on Monday has apparently requested the interim Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers to function until further arrangements are made.

On Monday the Governor has gone to New Delhi and it is still not clear as to when he will return to Chennai to preside over the swearing in ceremony. As of now the Governor has kept Sasikala and the AIADMK cadre in waiting.

Meanwhile the preparations for the swearing ceremony at the Centenary Auditorium of the Madras University has started on Monday. The swearing-in ceremony scheduled to happen today has been postpone indefinitely due to the Governor's non availability.

In another important development, the Supreme Court has said that its verdict on the Karnataka Government's appeal against the acquittal of former Chief Minister Jayalalitha, Sasiakla and two others in Disproportionate Assets case within a week. A verdict will decide the fate of Sasikala becoming the CM. If her acquittal by the Karnataka High Court is upheld by the Apex Court, she can go ahead as Tamil Nadu CM. If the SC quashes the acquittal and convicts her, Sasikala will not be able to hold any political post.

A separate petition has been filed in the SC by Chennai based Senthil Aarumugam of Satta Panchyat Iyakkam to bar Sasikala from assuming office as the Chief Minister until the verdict on the Assets case is pronounced.
