December 12 is an important day for crores of Rajini fans all over the world for it is their Thalaivar’s birthday. On Sunday, when their matinee idol turned 61, his well wishers celebrated it with various welfare activities.

Apart from performing milk abhishekhams to the cutouts of the top actor, his fans also distributed sweets, offered special pujas in temples and also burst crackers. They distributed assistance to the needy at functions organised to celebrate the day.

The occasion also saw some of the fans thronging Rajini’s Poes Garden residence in Chennai to wish him on his 61st birthday. However, the Superstar remained quiet and spent the day with his family members, sources say.

This year it is double delight for Rajinikanth for his ‘Enthiran’ is declared a countrywide blockbuster. Also, there are two new entrants in his family- Ashwin, who married Rajini’s second daughter Soundarya and Linga, the second son of his eldest daughter Aishwarya.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi greeted Rajinikanth on the occasion. Karunanidhi called up the Superstar over telephone and greeted him on the occasion of his ‘Manivizha’.

Karunanidhi’s son and Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin also called up the actor and greeted him. And almost all television channels in Tamil aired at least one Rajini-starrer on the day, besides special programmes dedicated to the top actor.
