Just like the first part or rather as the movie is called Volume 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is crazy, freaky and quirky in every aspect. Quill, Gamora, Drax and Rocket are back. And there can be no Guardians party without The Groot. The first film set their characters up, and this latest episode plunges them across into the galaxy roaring, fighting and definitely stealing things as we have seen already in the first.. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 plays well with people’s memory. If you remember what you loved in the first part, the makers have recreated these highpoints and tuned them into the second too.
Guardians of the Galaxy are now famous after their first encounter at saving the galaxy. However the second time, things turn ugly for them when they mess up a job delegated to them and now the Sovereign is after their life, it becomes a game of Cat and Mouse. Soon they come across Ego, a living planet (Kurt Russell), who says that he is Peter Quill’s father (Quill’s mother’s promise to him in the first part!) So, Quill is now introduced to his roots and there’s a whole new set of things we learn about his past. Also as he learns about his relationship with Yondu, the plot goes on with twists and turns. There’s also Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) learning some interesting thing in this new world.
Rocket steals some important items from a perfect evolution that sets out to destroy the Guardians. Meanwhile, Star-Lord finally makes contact with his long-lost dad, who is revealed to be Ego (Kurt Russell), a holy being who hopes to team up with his son and teach him more about his origins, he is also joined by a new character, the nervous Mantis (Pom Klementieff), who has the ability to literally give people attitude changes. Then there is the gangster Yondu (Michael Rooker) and his merry band of space pirates who play the usual cunning role. Returning in the second part too, is Gamora's "evil" sister Nebula (Karen Gillan), who is still jealous of her sister's preferential treatment from their father, the MASTER villain of the Marvel Universe, Thanos ( Avengers Ultron end on Thanos’s note).
Yet again the opening is played out against a song from the new mix tape, just as in the first! From beautiful sets to mind-blowing CGI the presentation, the film just feels a whole lot more polished. The thing about GOTG is that it keeps coming back with its one-liners, absolutely hilarious and makes you double with laughter. Now this has been Marvel’s USP all along and they have never ventured into the Dark theme, being all sinister and that.
The story unravels in the usual way one would expect too, for the Avengers 2018 : Infinity War will have Galaxy heroes meeting the heroes from Earth, so the fight for the Infinity Stone should rather have an interesting meet. GOTG will stiff challenge in Indian market for sure with all eyes on Baahubali, still it should pull audiences for its sheer comical outtake and the fantastic CGI it holds.
Verdict : Guardians of Galaxy Vol2 is a perfect freakish sequel, full of energy and action. The CGI and visuals are stunning enough to get you hooked to the end.
