Set in the village background completely, this is about a freewheeler; (Gundra Govi) is good in parts from the newcomer director Tharesh Raj. Two good tunes and wide difference between city and village living minds in `Gundragovi' offers the rugged style of narration because of the title.
The surprise at the interval block, the clash of two Gowdas in the village and humanity taking prime spot is well explained. The director has got the good support from the artists.
The no asker no teller person Kummi is living with his friends doing petty thefts from every house in the village. He is a boozer of local arrack and has heard of gold. Kummi finds a child abandoned (similar to what we have seen in `Thabbali') and giving tutelage to it becomes his head ache. Initially he takes the help of Madhu (Navyasri) but at the interval time both Kummi and Madhu with a child stand before the villagers as couple.
They are not real couple says director post interval. To avoid the bad eye of Mayanna Gowda's son, Madhu ties the Mangalasutra on her own and explains to Kummi that she is in love with Gopi who is staying in city. All is not well. Gopi picks up suspicion in his mind on the relationship of Madhu and Kummi and the Mayanna Gowda gang comes to take revenge on Kummi leads to a battle ground in the village. Kummi kills Mayanna Gowda and his son. Madhu loses her leg. After seven years Kummi comes back from serving the imprisonment and says to Madhu he wishes to marry her and further take care of the child.
For Sathya this is a very well made role. Quite often he gives up his shirt and sharp dialogues; his dark complexion surely gives him a spot in Kannada film scene. Navyasri is OK but she goes like a student to teach in a school.
Phoenix Raja gives more melody in his three songs. The title track gives a complete picture of the nature of the hero. Hage Hadhu Hogu Omme...is too good. Niranjan Babu's camera work does not move out of the village.
