Tunes that thrill target audience
Wednesday, March 24, 2010 • Tamil Comments

Music in Sakthi Chidambaram's films should have to be racy, as commercial potboilers are the director's forte. Music composer Dheena seems to have understood this, as tunes composed by him for 'Guru Sishyan' are sure to thrill the target audience.

In other words, Dheena has once again proved that he can come up with mass numbers which would appease front-benchers. The vocals led by a young team, support him well. The highlight of the album is a song rendered by Sathyaraj and Sundar C.

Produced by Radha Shakti Chidambaram, the movie features Sathyaraj, Sundar C, Shruthi, Santhanam and Saranya in lead roles.

1. Aandava Aandava - Listen here

Singer: Tippu

Lyricist: Kabilan

Dheena begins on a brisk note. Tippu with gusto renders this song. The lyrics evoke instant laughter on the listeners. More a peppy number, it could make its way into charts.

2. Kathara Kathara - Listen here

Singer: Belliraj, Rita, Dheena

Lyricist: Kabilan

'Kangal Irandal...' fame Belliraj combines with Rita and the music composer Dheena himself for this song that is more dominated by lyrics. The melodious flute accompanying the lyrics is a treat to listen to. A melody that is strikingly different among other numbers in this album.

3. Vaangonna - Listen here

Singer: Suchitra

Lyricist: Vaali

A remix of the hit number in 'Bhadrakali'. The song which is loud and peppy has been given the same energy. A old wine in new bottle, the number has been sung appropriately by Suchitra, who oozes with energy. Though the original was far better, the pace of the song would make it click.

4. Aattaiyai Podu - Listen here

Singer: V N P Venkat, Rita, Dheena

Lyricist: Kabilan

Again a brisk number. But the magic lies in lyrics. Seemingly describing a woman, the number has some strange percussion sounds. Dheena has given what lovers of peppy music want in this song.

5. Subbiah, Subbiah - Listen here

Singer: Sathyaraj, Sundar C, Chinna Ponnu

Lyricist: Kabilan

It was a big gamble on the part of Dheena to have Sathyaraj and Sundar C singing this song. But it has paid off well. They have combined well to croon the number that is entertaining. Seemingly a discussion between the Guru and Sishyan, the song has lyrics that are quite funny and pleasing to, listen to. Cheers Dheena.

On the whole, it is a typical Dheena album that is pacy, racy and entertaining. Sakthi Chidambaram has managed to get the tunes what would compliment this movie.
