Director Mysskin has carved out a niche for himself in Kollywood through his films which are elusive, mysterious, arrogant and offbeat in nature. The director has gained a strong following among movie buffs and the general audience with straight, hard hitting and emotionally charged stories.

Born Shanmugha Raja, Mysskin rechristened his name after the innocent and compassionate protagonist of Dostoevsky's novel 'The Idiot'. The director's literary strength has helped him create memorable characters for his films which instil deep impact in the viewers.

Mysskin's treatment of his heroes have always been unconventional. When most Tamil cinemas bestows its heroes with 'difficult-to-believe' physical prowess, Mysskin's usually flawed protagonists follow Joseph Campbell's archetype of hero where the characters fight through a barrage of obstacles to find the hero within themselves.

Mysskin proved his mettle in his very first directorial venture 'Chithiram Pesuthadi' which revolves around a henchman's complicated love story. The film became a massive hit of the year. Already having established as a proficient director, Mysskin surprised the audience with his crime thriller 'Anjathe' which gained rave reviews catapulting his name to new heights.

His third directorial venture was an emotional drama 'Nandalala' which was inspired by Takeshi Kitano's 'Kikujiro' in which the director himself played the lead role of a mentally challenged man. The film went on to receive wide critical acclaim. Following 'Anjathe', Mysskin's 'Yuddham sei' became reclaimed for the director's dexterity in the investigative genre once again.

Even though 'Mugamudi' starring actor Jeeva proved a setback for the director, Mysskin came back with a bang in 'Onaaiyum aatukuttiyum', a dark fable of a medical student who ends up rescuing a criminal and the events surrounding the incident. The film had no songs, except for Ilayaraja's background score which added to the film's poignant depiction of compassion and human nature.

Mysskin's films have over the years become stylised retaining its original flavour. His more recent films like 'Pisaasu' impressed movie-goers with its exemplary visuals and distinct character developments.

The director's latest movie 'Thupparivaalan' traces the adventures of a private detective reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes, which is something distinct and fresh in the Tamil film scene. The movie released to positive reviews among film lovers and the general public.

Myshkin has strengthened his stand as a director of substance with his unique filmography. Commending the director for his contribution to the film industry, Indiaglitz wishes Mysskin a happy birthday and a prosperous career ahead!
