An apmaan to the women centric revengeistan. T-series trip to women oriented ‘badlapur’ ‘Hate Story 2’ sequel of the 2012 ‘Hate Story’ is worse than its prequel. Though it’s not a continuation but a mundane celebration of the age old vendetta themes, in all probability the idea to cash on women centric revenge sagas is inspired by Tarantino’s maverick ‘Kill Bill’ series starring Thurman.
This one initially displays some similarities to Kill Bill 1 plot (a battered women struggling to escape from an hospital) but later turns into Anil Sharma’s 1981 ‘Shradhanjali’ starring Rakhee Gulzar and/or Roshan’s ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’ staring Rekha mode where the protagonist is after the killers of her husband/lover playing cat and mouse games with the antagonist.
Madhuri Banerjee as the writer in Hate Story 2 does nothing new in telling the story of beautiful Sonika (Surveen Chawla) - mistress of the powerful local leader Mandar Mhatre (Sushant Singh) Sonika is his possession but allows her to follow her passion of photography. Akshay (Jay Bhanushali) her class mate is in LOL (Lots of Love) with her. They elope to kiss and sing ‘Aaj phir tum pe pyar aaya hai’ (how ‘Dayavan’ this insaan) but Mandar shows no mercy and kills Akshay in front of Sonika’s eyes and exposed legs. Sonika then sets to settle score in this cliche and as predictable revenge saga that goes ‘Jhakmi’ every now and then.
Expecting cinematic lining from this badla timings type cinema is laughable. What irritates in Hate Story 2 is the failure of Vishal Pandya as the director in not only giving justice to a mediocre revenge plot but also unable to ‘hit’ the hot spot with the projected sex and sleaze that are far from plenty.
‘Zakhmi’ in the making department this ‘Aurat’ is bandaged to some recognizable extant by Sushant Singh power packed performance. Girish Dhamija gives him good limes to make the impact more vicious. Surveen Chawla appears in giving lot of effort she is decent but lacks the oomph quotient.
Jay Bhanushali is okay.
Sunny Leone is sexy as always in ‘Pinky Lips’ but the move fails to do the trick in the film as it comes suddenly appearing as a promo but honestly the makers have done their part and gathered interest due to this sexy inclusion.
This in all probability must be the basic idea behind making the sequel of Hare Story 2 - make a product (no not a film) without bothering about any shred of artistic imagination. No involvement of any specific craftsmanship but all concentration in hyping it with doses of ‘Pink Lips’ like sleaze with the only motivation that it will make money.
Conclusion: If Hate Story 2 makes money too (Hate Story made some) then be prepared for Hate Story 3. Blame it on the generosity of the audience who had elected wrong government in past and cried for years so why not a bad film with no class. This won,t last for more than three hours and at least it allows you to laugh at yourself at your own cost making the makers smile at the box office showing their ‘Pink Lips’ done with your money. Choice is yours.
