The Madras High Court has ordered that the 30% Entertainment Tax exemption given by the Tamil Nadu Government for Tamil films fulfilling certain conditions including the Tamil title, be given to Producer-actor Udhayanidhi Stalin's latest release 'Gethu'. An elated Udhay has confirmed the news in his Twitter page.

The Government had denied exemption to the film as the members of the Tax exemption committee had unanimously recommended that the title 'Gethu' is not a Tamil term and hence the film does not qualify for Exemption.

Udhayanidhi approached the Madras High Court with proofs claiming that 'Gethu' is indeed a Tamil word and it is also included in Tamil dictionaries. The Government side in its defence had stated that title could have been considered as Tamil term only if it was spelled as 'Kethu' in English and not 'Gethu'.

However the Court seems to have found validity in the arguments of Udhayanidhi Stalin's counsel and has ruled in his favour.
