Every year the announcement of State Film awards are regular at opening a Pandora’s Box regarding the selection of various awardees. This year too, there are a few that is worth mentioning, the major one being the selection of Dileep, ahead of Mohanlal and Anupam Kher who delivered an extraordinary performance in Blessy’s 'Pranayam'. Even the actor in Dileep will find himself in difficulty this time, as many of his well done characters of the past has been consistently ignored by the award juries citing them as mimicry performances. And ironically in the year's award winning performance for 'Vellaripravinte Changathy', there were many deliberate instances of mimicking the senior stars of the times like PremNazair and Sathyan. If you trace back the critical responses of the movie at the time of its theatrical release, you may not find a single instance in which any of the critic find its acting part a valiant effort from the star.

The recent association of Dileep with Bhagayaraj, the chief of the jury for a new Malayalam movie expected to be on theaters for this Onam, is also a matter of discussion among a few staunch Lal fans. But the insiders of the industry who know the integrity of the Tamil actor-director will not pose an element of doubt on the decision.

Be it in a character that doesn't match the expectations, Dileep is sure to have won a lottery out of an not so extra-ordinary performance. But it must also be remembered that Dileep is one actor who had surprised us with his commitment and consistency in different award worthy characters in films like 'Chandhupottu', Kunjikoonan and Chakkaramuthu'. Anyway, Indiaglitz, congratulates Dileep for this ‘price catch’.
