I am indebted to cinema: Vijayakanth

Vijayakanth made an emotional speech at the audio launch of 'Renigunta' in Chennai on Wednesday. The actor turned politician, who is rarely seen at movie functions these days, presided over the event and said he would continue to act till his last breath.

"It was cinema which gave me a platform to venture into politics and reach out to the masses. I am indebted to film industry I will continue to act," he said.

In his address, filmmaker Ameer said, "Lots of youngsters are making their foray into filmdom and trying their hand at innovative themes. 'Renigunta' would be one such movie to watch out for."

Director A R Murugadoss said, "the songs and the visuals are interesting. They seem to promise a lot."

Others took part at the event include Tamil Film Producers Council president Rama Narayanan, cinematographer P C Sreeram, filmmakers N Lingusamy, Balaji Sakthivel, actors Silambarasan and Jeeva.

The movie, directed by debutant Panneerselvam and produced by Mahendrakumar Jain, features prominent producer NIC Arts Chakravarathy's son Johnny in the lead. A newcomer Sanusha from Kerala makes her debut.

The movie has music by Ganesh Ragavendran, great grandson of veena exponent S Balachander.

According to Panneerselvam, "I was so disturbed by news reports of teenagers turning into criminals that I decided to make 'Renigunta'. It dwells on the need to mould children, the future pillars of the nation."
