What do you expect when you are on to a Suresh Gopi flick which has him in the uniform? Definitely it will be something about doing investigation, most presumably on a murder which captured headlines, or even a terror ploy that has to be put to rest. And from the word go after the entry of protagonist, you will be submitted to repetitive sequences of bombastic dialogues which the hero will be pouring over his rivals in uniform, superiors and of course the political manipulators. Then there will be a definitive pieces to display the fitness and fisticuffs of the protagonist act...and not to forget the sequences of slow motions where the hero walks back towards the camera. After every eventful occasions.
Yes, there you are definitely narrating the plot of' IG, Inspector General, who is on to give a final blow to the terrorism activities in the state. Liberally borrowing the mood and sequences of Bharathchandran, Balram and commissioner to the latest Roudram and peppered with comments on every recent political events that captured headlines, this `IG' tagline as the "Ultimate War On Terror'', fall short of anything than a regular, predictable police drama that hardly thrills .
Suresh Gopi is Durga Prasad, the firebrand inspector general, now in a punishment posting as IG traffic in the state capital. A big blast in the city market and a murder of a home secretary Paul Joseph (Sreeraman) inside the secretariat premises brings in the protagonist back as the head of Anti Terrorist Squad, which enjoy unlimited power, with no interference from the top, to clear off the terrorist links and solve the murder mystery. And to know the rest, you very well need no big powers of prediction.
Suresh Gopi, though a little jaded is engaging enough to make you sit, till the final reels. He appears reasonably fit and charismatic, though in the same role, the umptenth time. Govind Padmasuriya who plays Durga's brother and Anaida Nair shows glimpses of star elements in them. The others in the cast are never in any mentionable characters, with hardly any kind of freshness even in their mannerisms. Lakshmi, Vijayaraghavan and Jagathy Sreekumar are wasted in insignificant roles. .Rajan P Dev also managed to credibly present the man on hot seat, than going for another mimicry.
B Unnikrishnan doesn't seems to be in a elevating graph in terms of his direction and screen play which lacks some convincing plot points and pace to become an acceptable hit. The technical sides are also in mood with the movie with Shyam Dutt creating above par visuals for this "regular old wine" with not so great packaging. The only song in the film is also not a feature to talk about.
IG ends up as another cop movie without any thrills or real points to make about its premises. Without any hard core emotions about patriotism and anti terrorism, `IG' is destined to end up as a downer or just another inclusion into the star's long list of cop movies.
