This is his second movie as a hero right? Well actually third if we consider Arai En 305-il kadavul too, so who are we talking about? It’s about the man who floored us with his laughing machine, then decided to jump the barrier of a comedian to that of a Hero, the million dollar jump so many comedians over the years of Tamil Cinema have tried after establishing stardom. Yes, your answer is right, Santhanam indeed! His second solo act and he can be seen walking down like a dude, clad in latest designer wears, dances along with foreigners for a number and then even better, gets to romance two gorgeous ladies.

The Movie:

When Lollu Sabha was being played on Friday nights, people tuned in to watch two things; one for Santhanam and his timely one-liners, and the second for the dialogues slash intelligent leg-pullers. Now after a long time they come together for a full fledge film, the energy level is still intact barring a few dull moments, Inimey Ipadithan is a colorful entertainer.

Santhanam plays "Seenu" the jolly-go-lucky guy, falls heads over heels on Maha(Ashna) who also appeared in his previous flick. As with any other romcom movie, he tries to propose to her innovatively to grab her attention, for once we even get to think he would become the stereotyped hero who would bash up the thugs who poke fun at the heroine, but the director has his own ideas and keeps the ball rolling. Just when you start assuming, alright give me something different, the duos of Muruganand( They are actually two people) pens down a twist to the plot.

If Santhanam keeps jotting down one-liners, there is one more character in the movie who equally spices up the comedy track with his body language - the experienced Thambi Ramiah. The hero is forced into engagement with Akhila Kishore when the girl he actually loves proposes to him. So guess what, a triangular love breaks in with Santhanam set scratching his head wondering what went wrong; how and what he does to break this jinx is what follows.

What works?

The concept is rather done and dusted; even then, the director combo needs a pat on the back for weaving out a neat entertainer from the hat. You might see him as a hero, walking down suave enough to look hot, showing some great improvement in dancing; sporting a super hairdo, but the comedian in Santhanam is what makes him stronger. The easily delivered dialogues, smart punch lines are completely amusing indeed. From the leading ladies front, Ashna has a creamier role than Akhila, somehow messes up her dubbing but delivers what was intended. What do we need to say about Thambi Ramiah?, the man is indeed a versatile star, rises up as the uncle character and tickles our funny bone remarkably.

The movie’s first half with romance, comedy and songs takes the screenplay for a toss, but then shuttles well in the second half with more antics, then paces up for an unusual climax, kudos on that part to the director. Santhosh’s music doesn’t glue much when you hear them alone, but with some juiced up masala lyrics and comic visuals they do look well on the screen.

What could have been better?

As much as you try to enjoy the hero inside Santhanam, applaud his hero coming efforts, there are various reasons that let him down, to quote a few; the makeup, lighting and presentation of Santhanam has been hyped, spiced and boosted rather too much to convince him as a young dashing hero, that actually makes it too artificial, for we have seen Santhanam on close quarters as the boy next door, playing pranks, pulling off healthy jokes and all this sudden makeover rather makes it too obvious of his desperation as a hero. It would be best to see the talented star in a role that exploits his strengths, if he aspires to become a full-fledged hero.

The film is a just about decent family entertainer, no doubts about that, but to make it extra-large and more interesting, it definitely needs more than the term "just about". Improper song placement, sloppy editing and dubbing, with a run time of more than 2 hours contribute for the film’s negative aspects.

All said, Santhanam the hero is here to stay and so is he going to be like that?Well he says Inimeyl Ipadithan!

Verdict : A good time pass entertainer.
