Jab Harry Met Sejal Review

Expectations

Shah Rukh Khan is known as King Khan / Baadshah Khan and the King of Romance. It's all due to his various romantic films and all the love he has got from his female fans. The moment he open ups his arms, the silver screen seems magical for all of them.

Sadly, his last few films have been everything but romantic. Thus, he teams up with one of India's finest romantic filmmaker Imtiaz Ali for the movie 'Jab Harry Met Sejal'. The songs, trailer and entire promotion strategy looks great. Thus, the expectations are sky high, but the age factor might end up being a spoilsport.

Story

'Jab Harry Met Sejal' is a story of Harinder Singh / Harry (Shah Rukh Khan), a tour guide for European cities. Harry hates his job and keeps pretending to be sweet and charming in front of his clients. His life takes a drastic change with the arrival of Sejal (Anushka Sharma), who has lost her engagement ring on her European trip which was conducted by Harry. Harry tried to avoid Sejal but fails miserable and sets out to find the ring in various European cities. The trip also explores the inner side of Harry and Sejal, by developing a new bond between them.

The 'Glitz' Factor

The first half is engaging, interesting as well as entertaining. The contrasting mannerisms of Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma manage to establish their various characters. The movie is a good romantic film which has been mesmerisingly shot in various cities like Amsterdam, Prague, Budapest, Lisbon and other places.

There are some fantastic scenes between Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma which work as the key element for the film. These scenes along with few scenes where Shah Rukh and Anushka gradually come close to each other, work as the finest moment in the film.

Music director Pritam returns back in Imtiaz Ali's camp after a long time. He shines out in songs like 'Radha', 'Phurr' and 'Beech Beech Mein'. 'Hawayein' and 'Safar' are among the finest work in this film. The lyrics by Irshad Kamil in these songs is good. The background music is great and goes well with the flow of the film.

Director Imtiaz Ali comes back to his safe zone on the lines of films like 'Jab We Met'. This movie might look as Imtiaz's simple or safer work but on the contrary is quite complex and a tough job as he had to match up to the humongous expectations of his and Shah Rukh Khan's fans.

Shah Rukh Khan looks great in some scenes. It's good to see him back into his forte of romantic films. Anushka Sharmais fantastic with her innocent and naive expressions. Shah Rukh talking to himself and Anushka's goofy talks are highly enjoyable. Their bonding works in the favour of the film.

The 'Non-Glitz' Factor

The movie is highly predictable from the start. There are minimal happenings in the screenplay and in the second half it goes on a repetitive and stagnant mode. The last hour of the film has been stretched to the fullest. The bonding between Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka demanded more detailing and more conviction. Presence of Anushka in the finale scene is not justified. 'Butterfly' song could have been omitted.

Director Imtiaz Ali should have opted for more bolder or daring or enjoyable finale like he did in films like 'Love Aaj Kal' or 'Jab We Met'. His die-hard fans will be highly disappointed. The screenplay should have been more powerful. Chandan Roy Sanyal, Evelyn Sharma and others are wasted.

Final 'Glitz'

'Jab Harry Met Sejal' will be loved by Shah Rukh Khan and will make them meet the romantic hero, again.
