Last week, actor Jaycee Chan, son of action actor Jackie a Chan, and Taiwanese actor Kai Ko were arrested by Beijing police on charges of drug abuse. Jackie's 31-year old was caught along with his mate Ko, at a foot massage parlour, smoking marijuana. This has deeply hurt Jackie and his wife, and he came out in the open, taking responsibility for his son's mistake.
Jackie apologized for his son's action, on the Chinese microblogging website Weibo, that has a good 22 million followers of him. Chan wrote that he is sorry for the bad example that his son has set. "It is my mistake that I have not taught my son what is right, and I take responsibility for his mistake" Jackie wrote, who further stated that he is ashamed as a public figure. Jaycee and Kai Ko were arrested on 14th August; while Kai has a 14-day detention, Jaycee may be liable to a 3-year sentence, as he has provided shelter for another person for drug abuse. According to a leading Chinese daily, Jackie Chan was appointed as Beijing's anti-drug ambassador in 2009. It takes a great sense of responsibility and humility for someone of Jackie's stature to take responsibility for his son's mistake; we salute his humility and honesty.
