Jazbaa Review

And the day arrived when finally our most gorgeous diva of B-Town Aishwarya Rai Bachchan graced the big screen with 'Jazbaa'. For days and months together, excitement had been building over this Sanjay Gupta's directorial, the man who gave us good thrills with 'Kaante' and 'Shootout At Wadala' to name a few. The trailer looked promising - with good dose of punch dialogues, brilliant star cast, suspense filled plot.... But at last.... It's just a mere bubbly burst with no solid content...

No doubt, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is incredibly beautiful. She is OH SO stunning on the big screen. Her clothes are fantastic. There's the super talented Irrfan Khan. Super stylish filmmaker, Sanjay Gupta. Yet, 'Jazbaa' is not something which will leave audience asking for more. In fact, they would demand, it should have had some more quality content.

The film starts with Aishwarya being introduced as a top notch lawyer, Anuradha Verma, who is reputed for winning every case she handles. The story gains momentum when her daughter is kidnapped. To get back her daughter, Aishwarya has to win a case by freeing a criminal (played by Chandan Roy Sanyal) who is framed with charges of rape and murder. Her every move is watched by the kidnapper.

Enter Irrfan Khan, Aishwarya's once very good friend, who is a cop. Without revealing much about her tight situation, Aishwarya manages to get help from Irrfan. There are different supporting cast coming in, including Shabana Azmi who has maximum dialogues, Jackie Shroff as politician, Atul Kulkarni as the public prosecutor and Siddhant Kapoor.

However, the flow of the story is disjointed. The sepia tone throughout the film seems to be outdated. Of course, there are several twists and turns. But everything reflects forced emotions. Close-up sequences are wonderful. Although there is a surprise killer, it cannot be referred as a big revelation as it can be predicted.

Actors like Chandan and Siddhant are wasted. Shabana Azmi also seems to be miscast. Irrfan is brilliant, but he was better off in his last film 'Talvar'. It's not they don't have much scope in the movie. For, the film is all about being the comeback vehicle of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. But this movie is not for Aishwarya.

Story is over dramatised. A typical Bollywood remake of Korean film 'Seven Days'. There are over the top emotions. Over dialogues. Overall, a total disappointment. This Sanjay Gupta's Jazbaa (read emotions) just fizzles out, without lasting fire.
