Jigarthanda

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Tamil Comments

All eyes on Jigarthanda this week and why not! The ecstasy surrounding the delay of this movie has finally died down and fans can relish the fact that “August 1” is Jigarthanda day indeed! Directed by one of the most promising directors in South India, yes Karthik Subburaj indeed, the flick is touted to be a triangular love story that trots around an aspiring Film Maker, that of an Idly Maker, and a goon from the locals of Madurai.

Jigarthanda was Karthik Subburaj’s original choice, although he came up with Pizza first. Siddharth will be looking to shed his chocolate boy role with this movie, and this will be a different experience for the young lass Lakshmi Menon as well. She will be seen as an Idly seller in this movie, and to get this perfection the actress is said to have trotted along the streets gaining real time experience.

Bobby Simha will be the actor to look out for, his menacing looks and body language looks like the stuff to watch out for. The actor is said to have interacted with some real life Gangsters for his role and taken back a whiff of their body language for his acting lessons.

Karthik’s story telling abilities came into limelight with the racy plot that he heaved out with Pizza, and this time it is touted to be a triangular love story where romance takes the center stage. An idly seller who is the darling of two opposite personalities: One an ardent film maker who wishes to make a film set in Gangster milieu, and the other a local gangster himself! Both falling in love to the same fair maiden who sells idlies, what follows is Jigarthanda!

Music has been one of Pizza’s biggest assets and no wonder Karthik has relied too much on Santhosh Narayan’s music composition, be it the BGM or the songs, both have come out well. Santhosh has tried his hand at live composition for one of the songs and “Kannama” is already a raging hit amongst the youngsters, so yet another factor to watch out for.

Apart from Siddharth, Lakshmi Menon and Bobby Simha the film has Karunakaran, Prathap and Guru in the cast. Gavemic has taken care of the cinematography for this flick which is produced by Five star films. The film also had its share of delay after the original plan was to hit the roads by May, then

Kochadaiiyaan fever gripped the city, then again with the censorship board and now lately with the delay yet again. Albeit, the film has caused enough hype to make it one of the most anticipated movies of this year, so give it a watch and watch this space for reviews exclusively!
