Arshad Warsi surprised his audience by delivering a light hearted black comedy in the form of ‘Jolly LLB’. The movie was well received by the critics as well as the audience. The characters were such that one wanted to see more of them and maybe due to which the production house decided to make this movie as a franchise and added a bigger star in the movie. The addition of superstar Akshay Kumar managed to create controversies in the media world followed by its tight paced trailer raising the expectation level to the fullest.

Story –

Jolly LLB 2’ is a story of a Lucknow based small time lawyer Jagdish Mishra alias Jolly (Akshay Kumar) whose only dream is to have his personalized chamber in order to practice law. In the process of acquiring the chamber, Jolly cons Hina (Sayani Gupta). Hina’s seeks justice over the fake encounter of her husband Iqbal (Manav Kaul). Pregnant Hina ends up her life as her faith in humanity and judiciary system is totally shattered. This motivated Jolly to take the case in his hand and also gives him the required strength to fight the case against the top lawyer Mathur (Annu Kapoor). This leads to a dramatic battle between a top lawyer and a underdog.

The ‘Glitz’ Factor –

‘Jolly LLB 2’ starts with a couple of enjoyable scenes trying to establish the character of Akshay Kumar. The movie gains its momentum in the second half, which is totally engaging as well as mildly entertaining. Every scene attached to Saurabh Shukla and Annu Kapoor are outstanding. The conversations in the courtroom followed by Annu’s tiff with Saurabh and Akshay, works in the favour of the film. The final part works due to Akshay’s end statement followed by Saurabh’s finale speech. The best part of the movie is that despite of its several loopholes in the screenplay, the movie is presented in a totally engaging manner with many good entertaining moments attached to it. The dialogues are outstanding and some of the verbal conversations between Akshay-Annu-Saurabh are fantastic. The cinematography is perfect and goes with the flow of the film. The music of ‘Jolly LLB 2’ has only one good song in the form of ‘Bawara Mann’. Full marks to the director Subhash Kapoor for keeping the second half totally engaging and mildly entertaining. If he would have followed the path of the dragging first half, the movie would have ended up as a colossal disaster. Akshay Kumar looks great and starts the film with the help of his fantastic body mannerisms. He does full justice to his half-baked character with total honesty. Annu Kapoor is outstanding in his role. Wish the makers would had added more depth or hardship to his character. Saurabh Shukla is lovable and keeps you entertained due to his brilliant performance.

The ‘Non-Glitz’ Factor –

The story is simple and totally predictable. There are no twist or turns nor any proper courtroom debate as we had seen in ‘Jolly LLB’ and many such films. Everything is easily achievable in the film without any hardship or troubles. The whole track of Sayali and her case was not that impactful nor was the realization part from Akshay Kumar’s side. The courtroom drama in the second half has loads of flaws and loopholes. There are many unwanted scenes which dilute the impact of the film. The character of Annu Kapoor is underutilized. The second half has many over dramatic scenes and less on factual confrontation. The makers have even dared to show a kid present in the court hearing along with many such cinematic liberties. ‘Go Pagal’ lacks the enjoyment factor. Director Subhash Kapoor surprised his audience by delivering a perfect tale of an underdog, in the form of ‘Jolly LLB’. The entire story had all the required emotions at the right place. The characters of Boman Irani and Saurabh Shukla were outstanding along with the twist and turns in the screenplay. In case of ‘Jolly LLB 2’, Subhash gets every required ingredient, but tries to place it in a similar manner, due to which the novelty factor gets diluted. He could have done wonders with his lead actors and their characters, but ends up extracting an average result. Huma Qureshi, Kumud Mishra, Manav Kaul, Sayani Gupta, Inaamilhaq and others are wasted.

Final ‘Glitz’ –

‘Jolly LLB 2’ had all the potential to become a jolly good film, but ends up being a mildly good type of product. It will be loved by all those who have not seen ‘Jolly LLB’ and for the ones who have, might end up watching this movie as a strictly one time watch.
