Plot:
Kaaki Sattai, the name itself gives us the glimpse of the story. Yes, it is a story about a young policeman, who is aspiring to become a true, powerful cop. His life changer is just a question from his higher official, which leads him to path of proving himself as a powerful cop.
Cast Performance:
Sivakarthikeyan has shown a huge shift from a common next door boy to a cop. He has mastered the method of showing emotions through his eyes, which has taken him to another height. He knows to show expression as a comical and as a powerful cop. The roar from the audience shows that he has listed his name under mass heroes’ band.
Sridivya unlike other heroines has got a chance to show her acting skills and she has made use of it really well. Cute smiles, expressions through her eyes, reacting as per the sequence have added flavors to her beauty. She still needs to work a little on her body language.
Prabhu whom we know for a long time for his right type of acting has proven it again. Though he has appeared only in one fourth of the movie, yet he has ensured that he has made his mark.
Vijay Raaz, whom we remember more as a comedian in Hindi films, has shown a completely different face as the abtagonist. He has been portrayed a ruthless villain and made sure that people forget him as a comedian by replacing himself a baddie.
A Special mention to Imman Annachi, Manobala, Mayilsamy and Siricha Pochu comedy team for making the audience laugh aloud, and complimenting the movie effectively.
Direction and Screenplay:
The storyline is predictable to the commons, yet director Durai Senthilkumar has ensured that his audience will get entertained to their expectation. Kick starting with comedy and gearing up with social cause has become the success formula for this director. This well -handled screenplay itself will carry the movie into a mass commercial hit movie.
Technical aspects:
Music - Anirudh’s music will add up to his list of hit movies in his career. The songs has already reached the audience like a wild fire right from the time it was released and now it shows up in the theatres. The BGM has gone well with the scenes that it is pushing up our adrenaline, and makes us feel like he has engraved of his brand.
Cinematography – Sukumar’s lens captured the fine locales for the songs in the colorful manner and portrayed the hero in the right angles to deliver a crisp tone throughout the movie.
Choreography –Sherif has fine tuned the steps of Siva Karthikeyan and Siva has come a long way from ‘Manak Koththi Paravai’ days and his dancing skills have gone at the right end of the graph. Sri Divya does outperform him in some places, but he manages to deliver his best as well.
Dialogues – Apart from contributing to the screenplay, the ace dialogue writer has penned some sharp one liners which are destined for a commercial movie. Siva has mouthed them to perfection with proper emotions.
What Worked:
Durai Senthilkumar has woven a neat commercial flick with a small knot in the screenplay. Had it been delivered by someone else, the movie might have not looked good, because of the repetitiveness in the narration. But, Siva as a cop has brought in his own style and played well to his limits to ensure that the movie is beyond watchable across all the sections.
What Not:
Though the movie is engaging for most part, it takes the same old route that has been travelled many times by the yesteryear ‘mass’ heroes of Kollywood. Yes, it does offers rib tickling humors and takes us to some never seen locales, but at the end, it makes us feel that we have not tasted anything newer than a regular meal with a new plate.
Verdict: The ‘Ethir Neechal’ team has delivered one more winner here.
