Kabhi Socha Bhi Na Tha

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Hindi Comments

2007 continues to excel in movies about relationships, especially in urban India. SALAAM E ISHQ, HONEYMOON TRAVELS PVT. LTD., JUST MARRIED, LIFE IN A...METRO and now KABHI SOCHA BHI NA THA.

Germ of each of these movies is common - to explore relationships between number of men and women who may or may be related to each other but their paths crossed in some way or another.

The same happened with Neel [Dibyendu Bhattacharya] and Ritu [Seema Mishra] as well. Together they were a couple for over a year but there were also cracks that threatened to become visible any moment.

Into a live-in relationship, it was the lack of commitment that gave Neel an excuse for exploring his life outside the walls of his home. He had his eyes for Diya [Sandhya Shetty], his live-in partner Ritu's best friend. A model by profession, she was famous but didn't have a steady partner for herself. Uncertain about committing, she was happy to be with a man as long as the relationship didn't carry on beyond the bed.

Same was the case with her best friend Sukhi [Rishi Khurana] though he mistook his week long relationships with women for love. And when he did find love in his relationship counselor Radhika [Madhoo], she turned out to be a lesbian.

Where does this leave Ritu? Well she also had a secret admirer tucked in somewhere in the form of Ozzy [Vishal Vatwani], her colleague. A failure when it came to women, he had 13 relationships so far.

Will Ritu be the 14th?

Neel and Ritu live with each other. Neel wants Diya, Diya wants no one, Sukhi wants Radhika, Radhika wants a woman and Ozzy wants Ritu. Everyone wants something that was not his/her.

There is love, lust and sex but what was missing was the essence of actual desire.

A film that deals with a sensitive issue in a light hearted manner, KABHI SOCHA BHI NAHI THA is directed by Kallol Sen and is expected to release this summer.
