Come a whiff of fresh air in Kollywood is Kadhalna Summa Illai. At a time when larger-than-life themes hold fort in Tamil cinema, Raj TV has ventured to film production with a movie that provides some fodder to the audience.
Inspired by Telugu hit Ghamyam, the movie takes a closer on our attitude towards life. It makes one take a sneak peek on his self and his outlook towards the society. Illankannan, who wielded the megaphone for Arjun's Ottran before, has narrated a gripping and interesting story which is about the journey that two youths with contrasting characters set out together. The events that unfold in their journey make up the film.
The movie has no popular faces in it. Yet it is strikingly impressive. Illankannan has managed to infuse the Tamil nativity in the script that works out well.
Born in an affluent family, Abhiram (Sharvanand), son of a rich entrepreneur (Nasser) looks for status and class in everything around him. He comes across Dr Janaki (Kamalinee Mukherjee). She is a do-gooder, who cares for the people around her. Abhiram falls for her amiable ways and cute looks. But both are poles apart in terms of their attitude towards life. They estrange after Abhiram try to restrict her from venturing to noble acts.
Unable to forget her, Abhiram sets out on his motorcycle in search of Janaki. He meets 'Vetti'Velu (Ravikrishna), an orphan and a petty thief. He is a cool customer on earth, who takes things as it comes. A happy-go-lucky youngster, he joins Abhiram in his search for his beloved. They travel to far off places in motorcycle. Abhiram gets educated by events that he encounters in his journey. He develops an open-minded nature and yearns and craves for Janaki's company. Did he manage to find his lover forms the climax.
Sharvanand, who played the same role in the original (Ghamyam) is a well come addition to Tamil cinema. He looks good on screen and does his part well especially in action and romantic sequences. Kamalinee Mukherjee plays a matured role with ease and elan. M S Baskar and Ganja Karuppu does their part and the former succeeds in coming out with some good comedy.
However the real scene-stealer is Ravikrishna. He acts as the fulcrum in the movie. Ravikrishna's characterisation reminds one of the role played by Suriya in Ameer's Mounam Pesiyadhae. He goes hammer and tong with a role that resembles that of an average-youth-on-the-street.
Manisharma and Vidyasagar have rehashed some of their Telugu hits.
Illankannan has retained the portions involving Kamalinee Mukherjee and Sharvanand from the Telugu original, while the Ravikrishna and M S Baskar's scenes have been shot. Kadhalna Summa Illai is a delightful film that is entertaining and conveys a message loud and clear.
