It was always a given that Vidya Balan would come up trumps with 'Kahaani' and deliver yet another good performance. After all, the lady has showed ever since the days of 'Parineeta' that she cannot act badly. However while she was the body of the film, it was Sujoy Ghosh who have his heart and soul to 'Kahaani', hence making it an unforgettable experience. No wonder, it turned out to be a win-win situation for all involved as Vidya's credibility coupled with Sujoy's storytelling ensured that the opening weekend of 'Kahaani' went entirely as per the script.

It was predicted here last week that the film would take an opening in the range of 40%-50% and this is how the occupancy looked by the time opening Friday came to a close. The word of mouth started spreading like wildfire and since this movie was always expected to work more from good feedback than anything else, it only came as a shot in the arm for the makers. The film took a huge jump on Saturday and by the time Sunday came to a close, it was clear that the film was a winner. With close to 14 crores in it's kitty (including Thursday evening paid previews), the film is now en route to being a comfortable hit.

More than just the commercial success, what has further helped the cause of 'Kahaani' is some terrific appreciation that has come from all quarters. There hasn't been a hint of negative word of mouth from anyone and the film has only consolidated Bollywood's status of delivering something different when it indeed wants. For Sujoy Ghosh too it is akin to life coming back full circle a decade since 'Jhankaar Beats' (which was considered quite revolutionary then). With Vidya delivering yet another bravura performance, it is clear that she has already earned her name in the awards nominations even before close of year.

All such euphoria around 'Kahaani' (and also last week's 'Paan Singh Tomar') meant that 'Chaar Din Ki Chandni' was completely ignored. The Tusshar Kapoor-Kulraj Randhawa starrer just didn't kick-start at all and shockingly, it didn't show any improvement over the weekend either. Yes, the film's promotion was low key and hence a bumper start was always ruled out. Still one expected a 40%-50% start at the least. However the prediction went wrong here as audience just didn't step into the film despite it carrying decent merits and fair reviews. With one open week ahead, it may fetch added numbers but that's about it.
