Remembering Sujatha on his Birth Anniversary

Today is the 81st birth anniversary of writer Sujatha.

Sujatha is one of those few writers who continuously wrote widely read novels and short stories and also remained super successful in film industry as a writer. Though known for his fictions, Sujatha had equal number of fans and admirers for his non-fiction writing backed by expertise in various fields such as science, arts, literature, spirituality, sports, cinema etc. If the under current of subtle humor made him most popular among young readers, his ability to give detailed and lively description about anything on earth made him a favorite of serious readers.

Sujatha can be easily named as the most successful writer in Tamil cinema. He has collaborated with the best of filmmakers and directors like K.Balachander, Mani Ratnam, Bharathiraja, Kamal Haasan and Shankar and ensured that their films are enjoyed for dialogues also. The strong dialogues he penned for Shankar's films like 'Mudhalvan' and 'Anniyan' are still avidly remembered by movie buffs. He worked in films and kept writing till his last days. His contribution for the blockbuster 'Enthiran' which was filmed years after his death was immense.

Born in 1935 in Srirangam as Rangarajan he wrote under the pen name Sujatha which is the given name of his wife. He passed away at the age of 73 in the year 2008 but he is still alive in the minds of thousands of his readers spread across the globe.
