Kamal Haasan on Tuesday hailed the contribution of leaders of the Dravidian movement, including Periyar and M K Stalin at a book release function in Chennai.

Speaking at a function organised to release the political biography of Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, (Stalin: Mootha Pathirikaiyalar Paarvaiyil) written by veteran journalist Solai, Kamal said the book was not about an individual, but about a voice heard from Tamil Nadu when Emergency was declared.

The veteran actor urged that a book should be released in English on Periyar, with complete details about the founder of the Dravidar Kazhagam.

Kamal said that a section of the media was criticising his oft-repeated appearance in the functions related to the DMK and was describing him as a nilaya vidwan (in-house performer). He said he was proud of being so, as he has been praising the right person. He also recalled the torture that Stalin endured during the Emergency.

Dravidar Kazhagam chief K Veeramani, Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu N Ram, CMD of The New Indian Express Group Manoj Kumar Sonthalia, Vikatan Group Managing Director B Srinivasan, CMD, Kumudam group P Varadarajan, 'Nakkheeran' Gopal, RR Gopaljee of the Dinamalar Group, Malai Malar managing director C Balasubramaniya Adityan and a host of media personalities took part at the function.
