Actor Kamal Hassan today released a press announcement audio to SoundCloud detailing his decision to release his upcoming film to DTH boxes across India. He defended his move to release the film simultaneously for people to see at home by stating that producers and distributors should be looking for new avenues for attracting audiences.

“This is targeted at taking cinema to a niche segment that wants to enjoy entertainment at the comfort of their homes. It is purely to reach the excitement of watching it on first day. The cinema hall experience is still something else” said Kamal during his announcement. The audio file went viral after being released by Maiam, Kamal's e-Magazine, and quickly generated thousands of views within few hours.

“The encoded movie content will not be stored in the DTH set-top-boxes once it has been viewed,” he continued. “We are talking about catering to a small niche segment. The majority are still going to enjoy the movie in cinema halls. We have recorded the sound of the movie in world class technology (Auro Sound). That was done to get the people to cinema halls. Running scared of DTH is like the majority of 99 per cent being scared of 1 per cent.”

This is quite an indication that Kamal is unlikely to change his plans for the release of the film. Although being accepted by many as a good move, the film community have aroused against Kamal stating that his idea would kill theatres and other industries based on it. Over the period of last week, the DTH announcement along with Kamal's move to distribute the film himself under his Raj Kamal Films Limited.

Despite the odds, Kamal stated that the world has always been against people looking to accomplish new things and that he would always try and bring the best in world cinema to India. The audio launch of Vishwaroopam took place two days ago and has been received well.
