When the filmdom in the South as well as Bollywood is boycotting Kannada filmdom, Kamalhassan has stated that he was willing to act in a Kannada film .

This statement comes in the wake of reports that Kamalhassan is acting in a Kannada film directed by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao. Kamal was in Bangalore to inaugurate the Cinema Paradise showroom owned by Richard, brother of Shalini.

Kamal said that he started his career in other language films and then only came to Tamil. An actor was free to act in all languages and language was no barrier. He said that Kannada films should release more prints and reach out to interior areas. He wanted Kannada filmdom to remove the 7 week ban and allow all language films to be viewed. He could not believe that Tamil cinema, which was very small, could affect Kannada cinema, which has stalwarts like M S Sathyu and Girish Kasavarvalli.
