Too many homes are built on crushed women since time immemorial. Likewise there is no fury like woman searching for a new lover. It is also agreed that every woman needs a man to discover her. In this ‘Kiragurina Gayyaligalu’ based on Poornachandra Tejaswi Khadak desi style of narration of a tale there are all elements mentioned. The underdog women rise up, starvation of sex of a married makes a village belle to run away with another, finally the women uses collective strength to discover their strength - that is mainly because of men over pouring on weaknesses.
Director Sumana Kitthur doing justice for the novel of one of the leading writer Tejaswi has brought in hard truths. How the village life mental status of different persons works out. The rowdy women of this ‘Kiraguru’ are not that easy to budge. They take on the wrong meted out to them. There is apprehension, objective thinking, melting hearts, struggling minds, ego centric nature, fooling around in the name of god etc in this 139 minutes ‘Kiragurina Gayyaligalu’.
The cantankerous ladies - Shwetha Srivatsav as Dhanavva, Sukrutha Wagle, Manasa Joshi are most feared in the village. There is Kale Gowda with his wife (Sonu), Kale Gowda closets such as Sundar and Ananthavelu, another family of Kariya specialist in giving treatment to difficult pains in the body. The god man is Sharat Lohitashva and his henchmen is Achyuth Kumar.
The pains of Kale Gowda (Kishor) become multifold when his wife runs away with a desi doctor who comes to remove his ache. The status of Gowda keeps the Kiraguru Kariya at distance. The additional pain he suffers is his wife not delivering a child. When his wife runs away it is time for Gowda to look for another match. The grass root problem is with Gowda is unraveled by Dhanavva at the climax when Gowda wife returns.
How the ‘Kiragurina Gayyaligalu’ put an end to the fake beliefs is climax part of the film. The closing of liquor shop and setting it on fire is also a social message from this director. What about the high level liquor barons?
However Sumana Kitthur concentration on art direction, right environment, the dialect of Kannada set in Mysuru region, costumes selection, editing, background score are all in top gear like how all the actors are in this film.
Kishor under playing the role, Shwetha, Manasa and Sukrutha vociferous are also terrific in their roles. The gracious presence of B Jayasri, the elderly women Girija Lokesh and Lakshmi Chandrasekhar, the silence of Sonu Gowda, the vigor of Shobaraj and Sharat Lohitashva, the change of colors in Achyuth Kumar, Sunder comedy, Rahul innocence, Ananthvelu submissive nature comes out in flying colors. The cinematography of Manohar Joshi deserves a few awards for him; Sadhu Kokila in background score has given a neat and tidy work.
This is a film to watch if you are ‘Desi’ lover. Well done Sumana and team!
