The year 2006 has witnessed so far a dozen releases with majority of them being action-oriented ones.

But for Pasaakiligal, all the three films released on Pongal day (Paramasivan, Aathi and Saravana) saw the heroes flexing their muscles and the trend seems to continue with movies like Dishoom, Chithiram Pesuthadi and the recent Madarasi.

Says a film distributor, 'movies on family sentiments have now taken a back seat. Almost all the mega-serials revolve around family sentiments and audience are content watching them in their television.’

‘You need something big and fast on the silver screen to draw them to theatres. Hence the industry is going in for action movies'.
