Kalaingar Karunanidhi's Kannamma that was released last week has had a lukewarm response at the box office.

The fact that Karunanidhi had penned the dialogues helped to sustain the crowd for just one weekend.

Despite all the hype, the film has just failed to whet the appetite of the fans. The main problem is the film's preachy tone. Secondly, the story and its handling has also left a lot to be desired.

And the third, and also slightly unpalatable truth, is that the modern generation, brought up on flash-cut videos, has little patience for lengthy dialogues. They have little or no appreciation of characters mouthing wordy monologues. As they say, "it is simply not on".

These are the lessons of Kannamma.

But Karunanidhi, a shrewd writer and a man who knows the pulse of the people, has resolved to make amends in his next Manin Maindhan.

He pens the dialogues and screenplay for the movie to be directed by Rama Narayanan starring Sathyaraj and his son Sibiraj.

Karunanidhi had a detailed discussion with Rama Narayanan recently and said to have expressed some of his views on making the movie.

The veteran writer reportedly gave some tips to make the movie more interesting and engrossing.
