What is it all about

Cinema - by passion, for passion and of passion.. `Lincoln' is another strong testimony of how towering the talents of Speilberg and Daneil are..

What could have been a comparatively easier path for Speilberg to centre `Lincoln' around the civil war, the battles, drama and still find accolades and nods for Academy nominations.. But no.. the master filmmaker does a sort of `Schindler's List' with a witty wink, dramatic pinch and humanity zing by concentrating on the significant part of Lincoln's life - the passing of constitutional amendment that abolishes slavery. .

The Story

Adapted from Doris Kearns Goodwin's 2005 book "Team of Rivals," Tony Kushner's script concentrates on America's 16th President Abraham Lincoln turbulent final months in office which underwent corruption; lobbying, bribing and power play to ensure a safe passage of the constitutional amendment bill which will unite the country and abolish slavery and in the process providing human vulnerability and adorable warmth and family bonding to `Lincoln' huge personality..

What to look out for

Nominated for twelve Oscars including best actor (Daniel Day-Lewis), best supporting actress (Sally Field), best supporting actor (Tommy Lee Jones) and best adapted screenplay (Tony Kushner) along with the best picture and best director. `Lincoln' is completely charmed by Daneil's magical charismatic and wining portrayal of America's great icon.. Speilberg smartly doesn,t goes for a conventional biopic but arrest the icon for one month in 1865 where he made a decision which went on to become his biggest achievement ever.

Speilberg concentrates more on the drama the common human side of `Lincoln' which is informative, interesting, witty and absorbing.  The English shit story, Mr and Mr. Lincoln outburst are the moments you take away home.

The supported cast compliment Speilberg and Kushner with their very best where Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevens is stands out. Sally Field as Mrs Lincoln is remarkable, James Spader  as WN Bilbo is brilliant. As expected in Speilberg film the production values are up to mark. John Williams score moves with the film.

What Not

The makeup at times appeared funny.. to what extant does this movie set in 1865 mean/relate to people in 2013 needs to be seen.

Conclusion: Anchored by Daniel Day-Lewis supreme performance, `Lincoln' is Speilberg's magical triumph on screen after `Schindler's List'. watch it for any of the three reasons - if you love Speilberg, if you love Daniel Day-Lewis or you cherish the art called cinema..
