What is it all about?

Feature debuts don't come much better than producer director Jaideep Chopra also for screenwriters Sumit Nijhawan and Shirish Sharma.

Maazii is a taut, edgy, well conceived, mysterious, poignant, edge of the seat dramatic thriller that has enough snaky twists and turns to keep the audience guessing till the very end..

The Story

The writers Sumit Nijhawan and Shirish Sharma give a Kafkaesque feel to this story of a near perfect life of Tarun (Sumit Nijhawan) and Shrishti (Mona Wasu) suddenly one fine day goes through a sea change after an act of bravery, the consequences of which question the basic bond of their existence... Broken and crucified, will they ever be able to come out of the shadows that threaten to engulf them..?.. divulging much details in such genre will work as a spoil sport. The writing over here is decent where the writers keep the interest of the audience alive effortlessly with identifiable characters who speak in the lingo which is in sync with the film's setting and its environment.

What to look out for

Debutant Jaideep Chopra smart sense of scene development gives the precision to this story which keeps the viewer surprised, shocked, thrilled and moved to the shifting relationships and delayed revelations between Tarun and the people he encounters.

Thanks to the screen writings of Sumit Nijhawan and Shirish Sharma who slowly and surely dope the viewers with their action packed thrill pill by their fine build up of scenes and characters.

Surjodeep Ghosh cinematography is fine. RP Yadav action is as required. , Rameshwar S. Bhagat's editing is crisp.

The movie is powered by some neat performances.

Sumit Nijhawan is subtle. Mona Wasu does an impressive debut. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub shines. Manish Chaudhary as the cop is fantastic. Zakir Hussain is wonderful. Mukesh Rishi is fabulous. Pankaj Tripathy is wicked.

What not

Music Directors Faizan Hussain, Agnel Roman especially in their background score for the film fail to give justice. It's good in parts and sometimes during the tender moments it starts playing unnecessarily..

The writers are able to create the drama but ignore to add layers to their potential plot which could have said much more.

Conclusion: Maazii is undoubtedly a smart, taut, edgy, action packed thriller having enough snaky twists and turns to keep the audience engulfed. If you are ready to be shocked, surprised and thrilled then Mazii is your trill pill at your nearest theatres.
