Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Hindi Comments

Love triangles with an ample dose of comedy have always worked wonders at the box office. Director David Dhawan's recent Deewana Mastana [Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Juhi Chawla] and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi [Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra] have been standing examples of such laugh riots that have never failed to win audience's heart.

Now get set for yet another rip roaring party from Dhawan, 'Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya', which is a Sohail Khan, Seema Kar, Dhil in Mehta production under the banner of Shree Asthavinayak Cine Vision.

One gets nostalgic with an ironic title of the movie as this was the same Salman, who proposed love and became a lover boy overnight with 'Maine Pyaar Kiya' in 1989. 16 years down the line and Salman seems to be repenting the fact !!

MPKK seems to have a perfect mix of ingredients that make for an enjoyable family outing.

Starcast comprising of Salman Khan, Sushmita Sen, Sohail Khan, Katrina Kaif, Arshad Warsi, Isha Kopikar and Rajpal Yadav, foot tapping music by Himesh Reshammiya which is young and already in the charts, candy floss visuals that give the movie a fresh look, interesting promos that ensure 3 hrs. of non-stop 'masti' and 'hungama' and obviously David Dhawan's track record that speaks for its own.

With a novel storyline [detailed below] in hand, Dhawan is just required to stick to his winning formula and deliver this spicy 'bhelpuri' of love, confusion, funny rivalry and mistaken identities.

Salman Khan plays Sameer, an orthopedic doctor with a roving eye. More than his medical skills, he does a lot with his heart.

Especially so when a patient happens to be a young woman. Never failing to charm his girl, he flirts, loves and romances but never commits to marriage as he believes in his philosophy of 'Jeene Ke Hain Chaar Din....' ! So what does he tell his (female) patients who get a little extra cozy? That he is 'married'. Game, set, match !! The patient moves on, Sameer moves on too.

While he is on move, a new patient enters his nursing home (and his heart) ! She is Sonia [Katrina Kaif], who just needs a single sad moment in her life to make her inclined for a walk towards heaven.

Yes, she wants to end her life on any give pretext and its only after Sameer gets in her life that she puts her suicidal tendencies in the backburner. She loves Sameer but does flirtatious Sameer love her too? Obviously yes, because when the girl in question is someone as innocent and coy as Sonia, it would be an irresistible task for anyone to ignore her.

Everything goes on fine in their love life while Sameer's loyal nurse Naina [Sushmita Sen] looks on, with her heart beating silently for her charming love.

Sameer loves Sonia. Sonia loves Sameer. And the ideal next step is to get married. And this is where the hitch is ! Because Sonia wants to meet Sameer's wife and only get married after Sameer is divorced from his wife.

A difficult task? Yes! But not anymore with Naina stepping in as an ideal 'lover friend' and willing to 'act' as Sameer's wife in his home. With a fake marriage in place, now they file for a divorce where Sameer's best friend Vicky [Arshad Warsi] comes forward to help him out as his lawyer.

End of battle? Everyone thought so. But no one realized that there are two more characters that would pop up to disrupt the two lovers from walking away hand in hand towards sunset.

One is Sonia's neighbor Pyaare [Sohail Khan], a wannabe actor, who lives in the same building as Sonia and has only two purposes to meet in his life, a) win Sonia's heart, b) expose Sameer's lies. Sameer could battle Pyaare as well but what proved even more difficult task on his way was his own moth
