Marakathamani Movie Review

One chooses to go to adventurous movies because certain elements called thrill and the unpredictable takes one along the whole story and keeps one on their toes.

When Nikki Galrani made a statement saying that the “Movie is a Comedy, Love, Adventurous and fantasy genre” in the interview, people got excited and really looked forward to go watch it.

Let’s keep that statement in mind.

When one takes the risk to direct an adventurous genre movie, they have to keep it in their mind that it is not easy to make such a movie. Every element in the movie has to be coordinated well, if not, the output of the movie will be terribly affected.

Let’s get to the plot now.

The Plot:

Raghu Nandan (Aadi Pinisetti) is indebted. He is looking for something big. He wants to steal something big and make his life. He joins a smuggling gang called ”Ramdas” and his job is to steal stuff. He falls in love with Alekhya (Nikki Galrani) . However, she ends up marrying someone else. He wants to steal something big and he gets to know about a gemstone called “Marakatamani”. He goes to a ‘swami’ and gets to know about the gemstone and the history behind it. The swami tells him that over 132 people have died searching for that gem and their souls are still lost around a haunted palace. Raghu starts his journey to find the gem along with his friend, Bujji Babu. Their journey begins with interacting dead souls to find the path towards the gem. Another team too is searching for the gem and there is a competition between those two teams\gangs. So, who finds the gem? Who finally comes out of the haunted place alive?

Analysis:

The movie is stressed more on the comedy. It is humorous for sure. The director did a great job with his part.  Nikki’s character is not so glamorous and the fact that she plays such a different role is refreshing. Certain scenes involving interaction with ghosts cackles the audience. Cinematography is pretty well. However, the logic misses on the main plot half-way through. Brahmanandam’s character was totally unnecessary. Overall, the movie is a hysterical adventure. But as I watched the movie halfway through, it clicked that the story sings on the lines of Gopichand and Taapsi’s Saahasam( 2013). The gangs on an adventure to find the lost gem in an abandoned place? It rings on the same tune…

Verdict:

Marakatamani is a comedic adventure. A movie worth watching and you come out of the theatre with a smile on your face. However, the movie does not justify Nikki’s statements. She said “movie is a Comedy, Love, Adventurous and fantasy genre”. Is there comedy? Yes. Is there love? Not enough. Is there Adventure in the movie? It was too simple to call it an adventure. Fantasy? Because ghosts are involved, so it is safe to call it a fantasy. Right?

Final Thoughts:

Not so adventurous but a great dose of comedy is Marakatamani.
