Marigold

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Hindi Comments

"Real life is not a Bollywood movie", exclaims the leading lady of the film MARIGOLD. Well, this is what exactly happens to her the moment she embarks on her journey to India!

In her dream she would have never imagined that she would find love (and life) thousands of miles away from her country. But this is what happens with Marigold Lexton [Ali Larter], a young American actress who is brought to Indian shores due to her Hollywood assignment.

The shooting of her film goes kaput as lack of funds result in her being stranded in India. And now she has nowhere to go. Well, with a foul mood, high attitude and demanding persona like her, it was quite obvious that she would have found few takers in the tinsel world.

Until help comes in the form of Rani [Suchitra Pillai] who comes to her rescue. Her first friend in India, she helps her find a way and soon a small role in a Bollywood musical. A film that stars superstar Raj [Vikas Bhalla] and diva Shazia [Simone Singh]. With both stars truly having starry airs and tantrums to boast, it was nothing short of a miserable life for Marigold. While Raj considered himself as a God's gift to mankind [women to be precise], for reigning queen Shazia, the world revolved around her.

Working with such a team was hardly what Marigold would have ever imagined and it would have been pack up time for herself if not for one man.

Prem

A handsome choreographer who was sincere, modest and down to earth, he had a charm around him which was unmistakable and irresistible.

Prem taught Marigold quite a few things. And Bollywood dancing was just one of those many things. Because apart from shaking a leg or two, he also made her realize what true love was all about. She finds love. And now she it was impossible for her to let it go.

Meanwhile for Prem as well Marigold was more than just finding love. For him, it was also finding life. Because it was during the moments spent with Marigold that he realized the wide distance between him and his family.

Belonging to a royal family, he had left everything behind due to differences with his father Mahendra [Vijendra Ghatge]. Now as his mother Nandini [Kiran Juneja Sippy] was looking at him settling down with Janvi [Nandana Sen], a US educated pretty girl, Prem was on crossroads.

A series of misunderstandings later, Marigold decides to leave Prem for Janvi and move on in life but destiny had other plans set for her. Janvi explains to her that Prem was always Marigold's. In the meanwhile Marigold's boyfriend Barry [Ian Bohen] also pays her a visit from US.

What would Marigold do?

Also starring Helen, Gulshan Grover and Rakesh Bedi, Marigold is a musical comedy with Shankar Ehsan Loy composing for the film. This international project sees a worldwide release on 17th August.
