Mathiyosi

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Tamil Comments

`Mathiyosi' is one of the expected low profile film this year to do well. It is touted to be a movie that blends sensibility and actions in right proportions.

As the intriguing title suggests, `Mathiyosi' is a very different film. It's an interesting tale of four vagrants from a rustic village in Madurai, Onaan, Manga, Mari and Pandi who start their crook business from stealing a hen and then escape to the city to be happy until a girl comes into their lives changes all their plans.

The film has newcomers Harish, Alex, Gopal and Vishak as heroes and Shammu is in the female lead. Gopal who was a part of the hilarious duo in Kalloori, is back to facing the camera in `Mathiyosi'. Interestingly director Ravimariya dons the baddy role in `Mathiyosi' and featured as an effeminate villain.

The film is directed by `Oru Kallooriyin Kadhai' director Nanda Periyasami and produced by P S Sekar Reddy under the banner PSSR Films. Sekar Reddy had produced the critically acclaimed film 'Ammuvagiya Naan' before.

For `Oru Kallooriyin Kadhai' in 2005 Nanda Periyasami had big names in Arya and Sonia Agarwal to play the lead roles, Yuvan Shankar Raja for music. But this time he too thought differently and opted for new comers. Nanda Periyasami gave intense training to his new comers for over two months before putting them in front of the camera.

Nanda Periyasami has chosen Madurai as the base for his film and justifies his decision. He says "Because I am from Madurai and I know the in and out of the temple town. I wanted to add value to my film" he says. The director says `Mathiyosi' carries a strong message that can reform society. He is confident the film will fulfill the expectations of the lovers of good cinema.

Nanda Periasami also says most of the incidents are taken out of real life from the crime stories appearing every day in news papers. The story of `Mathiyosi' was written after listening to the stories of people who committed such crimes, he said.

There are some big canvas scenes in the film which are sure to attract the audience. There's this scene which is said to be the climax scene where the protagonists run a very long distance barefoot making it very realistic. There's another scene featuring 1000 children shot in a colossal way that made the whole unit happy.

Vijay Armstrong is wielding the camera and Guru Kalyan is debuting as music composer. Snehan has penned the lyrics. Guru Kalyan's six numbers in the film are sung by Kalyan, Malathi, Suresh, Sadha, Karthik, Jeya, Rajagopal, Karthikeyan, Guru Kalyan, Prashanthini and Satyan.

Another thing highlighted by the film makers is that Director Sasikumar has rendered his voiceover for the first 7 minutes prologue portions where he introduces all the four leading male characters.

The film has generated a lot of interest. `Mathiyosi' is expected to hit the theatres in March.
