India might have some reason for concern as China has moved military vehicles and equipment into northern Tibet, supposedly for defence exercises.

Despite not being near Doklam, the location of the Chinese military vehicles is close enough to allow for immediate deployment – within six to seven hours – through the road and rail network in Tibet. The move was made last month, according to a report by the South China Morning Post.

Ni Lexiong, a Shanghai-based military commentator, told the newspaper that the move was "likely related to the stand-off" and that "diplomatic talks must be backed by military preparation."
