Minnaminnikkoottam

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Malayalam Comments

Malayalam cinema boasted of some of the great names in South India as their important mainstream directors, in the eighties and nineties. But majority of them failed to change with the times and was either forced to stay away from the business or marginalized with no good projects. Some became totally confused about the tastes of the newer generation and started delivering flops after flops.

Only one director who is still going strong even after 25 years in film making is Kamal, who still manages to churn out hits. And his pucca commercial ventures give us the perfect blend of sentiments, humor, and beautifully done songs. This director of no parallels has amazed us continuously adjusting to the changing trends with such big hits like `Niram', `Swapnakoodu', `Nammal' and `Goal'.

In his another attempt to newer avenues of youthful life, he is zooming into the IT sector, the most booming industry of the state. His  new  film, titled `Minnaminnikoottam'  brings together a casting coup of sorts with  all the important younger stars of Mollywood   like Naren, Jayasurya, Indrajith, Manikuttan, Anoop Chandran, Meera Jasmine, Roma, Samvritha Sunil and  Radhika coming up as the main characters. The movie will discuss the life of the present-day IT-generation and  eroding  values as they become too  mechanical ,evading the  true splendor of love and  relationships.

The movie has all the important stars as I T professionals working at a firm in the Info Park. The movie has Indrajith as Sidharth and Samvrutha as his wife Mumthas, the two highly paid IT professionals. They have settled down after overcoming the initial crisis attached to love marriages. They have got a big circle of friends who all assemble at their flats, daily after work, to enjoy life after the daily strenuous work atmosphere.  Manikkunju [Jayasurya], Abhilash [Narain], Charulatha [Meera Jasmine], Rose Mary [Roma] and Kalyani [Radika ] are the important members of their friends group, who comes from various backgrounds. The friends group assure each other that no matter, what may come, they will be always there for each one of them. But the every equations change as Charulatha takes a tricky decision on the problems of her life, which affects all others of the gang. The unusual happenings thereafter changes their lives altogether.

Kamal himself writes scripts for this movie. `Minnaminnikoottam' according to the director is not only an adipoli youth affair, though a colorful flick. More importantly it deals with the mature and realistic relationships among youth and gives a message that defines the journey of love and friendship in a very different way.

Kamal tries a new  technical crew in  `Minnaminnikoottam' which includes cinematography by Manoj Pillai, art-direction by Gokul Das and  editing by K.Rajagopal. The movie  has  songs penned by Anil Panachooran and set to tunes by Biji Bal. Kamal is reportedly having shot portions  and songs in Singapore, to add color to the film . `Minnaminnikoottam', produced by Rakhi Ram under the banner of Nahar Films was mostly shot at Kochi and is slated for an early July release.
