Missed By One Superstar Hit by Another
It is common in the film world for a story written for one hero being made as a film with another hero due to scheduling conflicts, ego clashes, market considereatoins and above all destiny. Indiaglitz presents you the list of movies which one superstar missed but became a hit with another star. We have a few surprises Check them up. Director’s like Shankar who are a big fan of Sridhar believe that this action film is on par with any modern movie in the genre and the first choice was MGR who suggested to the director that since the film was laden with emotions Sivaji would be the better choice and the rest as they say is History.
Shankar started ‘Robot’ with Kamal Haasan in the lead and the stylish first look posters of the film created a huge sensation at that time. Kamal would definitely have added his touch to the character and taken it to a different level but years later Rajinikanth gave us the unforgettable Chitti who is one of the best robot characters ever created on screen.
Ajith was Bala’s first choice for this emotional film and even a poster featuring the then Ultimate Star came out but as fate it would have it Thala was unable to do the project and it fell on Suirya’s lap who grabbed the opportunity in both hands and used it as the launch pad to break into the big league.
The first choice for director Ranjith to portray his North Madras hero Kaali was actor Jiiva who the director felt would do justice because of his proficiency in Chennai Tamil. ‘Madras’ proved to be the film with which Karthi made a comeback after back to back flops.
'Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai'
Director S.P.Jananathan wanted to bring together his ‘Iyarkkai’ hero Shaam, ‘E’ hero Jiiva and ‘Peraanmai’ hero Jayam Ravi and the entire pre-production was done with these three committed. But just when shooting was about to begin first Jiiva and then Jayam Ravi opted out of teh project and were replaced by Vijay Sethupathi and Arya respectively who both got appreciated for their performances.
As soon as ‘Drishyam’ released and became a super duper hit the director Jeethu Joseph wanted it to be remade in Tamil with Rajinikanth and it almost got confirmed but for some reason didn’t work out and went to Kamal Haasan.
After impressing everyone with ‘Anjathey’ director Myshkin met Suriya and narrated ‘Mugamoodi’ story to him and it was reported widely in the media about various development discussions between the superstar and the director but then creative differences cropped up and the film was made with Jiiva and was a resounding flop.
Director Shankar planned to the film with Kamal Haasan for Aascar Films but things didn’t work out after initial round of talks and Vikram came into the picture and won critical acclaim for his performance and also enjoyed the biggest hit in his career.
Director Atlee planned to do ‘Raja Rani’ as a small film with his long time Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role who was just breaking into the big screen. The producers who liked the story wanted to make it big and so Arya, Nayanthara and Jai were brought in and the film was such a big hit that Atlee is directing ‘Vijay 59’ now.
Vignesh Shivan’s first choice hero for this film was Anirudh but since he was not interested in an acting career then started this project with Gautham Karthick and Lavanya Tripathi in the lead roles under Gautham Vasudev Menon’s production. But due to some unknown reasons the project shifted to Dhanush camp and the lead pair were replaced by Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara.
'Vai Raja Vai'
Aishwarya R Dhanush wrote the script with Atharva Murali in mind for the lead character but due to Atharva tied up with his other projects the role went to Gautham Karthick who tasted a small success for the first time in his young career.
During the pre-production stage for the Tamil remake of the block buster ‘3 Idiots’ Ajith and Suriya were the names that popped up regularly in the media for replacing Aamir Khan and then Vijay was signed but during the pre-production creative differences arised between Shankar and Vijay and it was reported in the media that Suriya had replaced him. But however the film was finally made with Vijay and remains one of his career best performances.
Venkat Prabhu announced the cast with Ajith and Nagarjuna teaming up for this heist thriller but at the last minute the Telugu superstar walked out and was replaced with Action King Arjun who won accolades for his subtle performance as Thala Ajith’s foil.
K.V.Anand approached Vijay with the script of ‘Anegan’ who loved it but since he was already committed for ‘Jilla’ and ‘Kaththi’ a situation arose that Anand had to wait for a year and a half to begin shooting and Vijay himself suggested Dhanush to the director and only then the ‘Kola Veri’ star became the hero and helped himself to another blockbuster.
A.R.Murugadoss wrote his debut movie with Vijay in mind but due to the latters busy schedule approached Ajith who starred in one of his biggest hits and also came to be known as Thala after the movie. A milestone film for Ajith indeed that could have gone to his arch rival.
K.V.Anand started the film with Simbu in the lead role and the photo shoot was completed and the team was ready to fly off to China for canning a song but Simbu walked out as he wanted a few changes in the script and was not comfortable working with Karthika as the heroine. Jiiva came on board and tasted his biggest success with ‘Ko’.
Shankar had only Rajini in mind to play the one day chief minister and Superstar was also floored by the narration but due to the prevailing political climate at that time he had to give up a tailor made role and Arjun got his career defining film.
A few years back director Vetrimaaran started shooting for ‘Vada Chennai’ with Simbu in the lead but due to some unknown reasons the project was put on hold and now it has been revived with Dhanush as the protagonist.
Director Chimbudevan almost started this film with Dhanush in the lead titled ‘Maarisan’ to be produced by UTV Motion Pictures but got shelved. A couple of years later ‘Puli’ started with Vijay in the lead and is the most expected fantasy adventure of the year. (This is only an assumption and we will have to wait and watch whether 'Puli' is an altogether different film or its 'Maressan' with a different name).
