Actor Peeli Sivam passed away

Senior actor Peeli Sivam (80) has passed away last night. Prior to that he was admitted at a private hospital in Vellore, where was admitted due to long lasting age related ailment. 

Peeli Sivam belongs to the generation of actors who hailed from the Tamil theater. He has acted in many stage plays. As early as 1955, he  won the Kalaimamani award given by the Tamil Nadu Government for his acting in dramas.

He has acted in supporting roles in hundreds of Tamil films since the black and white era. He has acted with Nagiar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan in 'Imayam' and he played Thuglaq's  assistant in Tamil cinema's one of the earliest political satire 'Mohammed Bin Thuglaq' written and directed by Cho Ramaswamy. He has also acted in many films with Captain Vijayakanth including the latter's debut directorial venture 'Virudhagiri'. His other popular films include 'Thanga Pappa', 'Abhimanyu' and 'Dhoorathu Idi Muzhakkam'. 

In his last years, he kept acting in Television serials and remained as a much sought after actor in the small screen circle. In the year 2009 he was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award given by the Tamil Nadu Government.

Peeli Sivam's mortal remains have been taken to his house at Mettupalayam in Coimbatore. The cremation would happen today.
