With a horde of period films being made now, from Arya’s 'Madrasapattinam' to Karthi’s 'Aayirathil Oruvan', the director of 'Mudhalvar Mahatma' assures that this will not be a period flick.

Clearing the air about the film, director A Balakrishnan says that it is a movie set in today’s India. He adds “It is the story of how Gandhi would react to the happenings of the country today and the story is based on the political happenings as well as the state of the student community today".

Shooting of the film, with Kanakaraj playing the lead role, has been going on near Nagpur, where a set has been erected resembling Gandhiji’s Wardha Seva Ashram.

Following this, the crew has planned to shoot in the Indo-Pak border, besides Sabarmathi Ashram and Porbandhar- Gandhiji’s birth place.

A bilingual, the movie has been planned for an August 15 release.

With 'Lagger Raho Munnabhai' and Sundar C’s 'Ayudham Seivom' largely based on the theme of Gandhi in today’s India, the Gandhi era is back in all it glory. On the silver screen, at least!
