This may be the first of its kind. But yes, it’s actually happening. Vidhu Vinod Chopra has decided to enter his blockbuster ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ as an independent entry for the Oscars this year. He has dispelled confusions by stating that his film is not entering in the Foreign Film Category. Instead it’s going to be competing in the General category.

Mr Chopra has also stated that he has loved ‘Rang De Basanti’ and also shares a great rapport with Aamir Khan, but it’s a decision that his production house has taken due to the overwhelming response received by ‘LRM’ all over the world. A few industry insiders are saying that such a practice will undermine the credibility of a body like Film Federation of India (FFI) that officially selects India’s entry to the Oscars.

If ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ does enter the Oscar fray then that will make three films made by India filmmakers competing in the Oscars this year. Besides ‘Rang De Basanti’ and ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’, Deepa Mehta’s ‘Water’ has already earned an official entry from Canada. Indian Cinema seems to be rocking the world….Finally.
