Naanayam

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Tamil Comments

Quality entertainment is assured when a movie is made by Capital Film Works. `Chennai 600028' and `Kunguma Poovum Konjum Puravum' are examples to it. "Naanayam will be one more in the list," says SPB Charan, the owner of the banner.

Directed by Shakti K Rajan, a debutant, the movie has Prasanna and Sibiraj in lead roles. For the first time in his career, Sibiraj is playing a role with negative shades. Prasanna, who played a baddie in `Anjathey', is doing a positive character.

Says Shakti K Rajan, who has apprenticed under Mysskin, Nasser and Venkat Prabhu, `Producer SPB Charan has given me a lot of freedom to work on the film. The movie is about a bank robbery. It will be racy from the word go."

On the lead players, he says, "Both Prasanna and Sibiraj are extremely cooperative. They are friendly too. The actors worked hard to make the film an interesting fair. And the end product is satisfying."

The movie has musical score by James Vasanthan. Interestingly, actor Silambarasan and music composer Devi Sri Prasad have crooned for a song. The number `Thanga kadhava thora da...Vanga kadalaa siri da...' is expected to be one of the highlights of the film.

Says James Vasanthan, "Naanayam will be full of contemporary tunes. The subject demanded such a score. And I was happy to break free from the tenor of my earlier work. Director Shakti K Rajan could relate well to a different style of music. Not just songs, but the background score too allowed plenty of scope to explore new realms."

Talking about the movie and his role, Sibiraj says, "I'm not portraying the stereotypical villain. In `Naanayam', there is a challenging mind game between Prasanna and me. I even have a couple of songs."

On his father Sathyaraj's reaction to his playing a baddie, Sibiraj says, "After listening to the role I play in `Naanayam', dad said it would do for me what `Amaidhi Padai' and `Nooravadhu Naal' did for him. `Utilise the chance well,' he advised."

Prasanna, the hero of the film, says, "Shakti K Rajan is a talented filmmaker. The script is so gripping. Acting with Sibiraj is a delight. On the whole, `Naanayam' will be a different experience to the audience."

Ace singer S P Balasubramaniam, father of producer Charan, is also playing an important role in `Naanayam'. As the shoot is over, Charan is planning to release the movie soon.
