Last week, social media was getting filled with posts quoting the South Indian Nadigar Sangam's new office bearers as saying in a press interaction that Nadigar Sangam will not help in any way for the relief and rehabilitation measures undertaken by the Government and various NGOs for the poor people who lost their bread and butter to the incessant rains that lashed out Chennai, Cuddalore and others parts of Tamil Nadu.

However this seems to be a mere rumor, as an official clarification issued by the Nadigar Sangam via a press statement states that none of its members gave any such interview or press briefing.

The statement has also listed out various rain relief measures and distribution of food and basic amenities by the members of Nadigar Sangam.

The Nadigar Sangam has distributed food grains, sugar, salt, utensils and blankets, dresses etc for people affected by flood in Karivettai, a village coming under the Chidambaran Taluk. This has been done with the help of an NGO called The Environmentalist Foundation of India.

Actors S.Ve.Sekar,Manobala, Poochi Murugan and Rohini took active part in this initiative. Young actor Arulnithi has distributed 1,000 blankets on his behalf.

Nadigar Sangam Executive Council members Kutty Padmini, Kovai Sarala,Lalitha Kumari, Pasupathu, Sonia, Udhaya, Hemachandran, Ayoob Khan and the office staff members of the Sangam also gave their time and efforts for three days for this welfare activity, the statement claims.

Flood victims in Kotturpuram, Chennai received the food and other basic amenities from Nadigar Sangam Executive members Ayoob Khan and Hemachandran.
