Humour always sells. In the past few months, over half-a-dozen films that belong to light-hearted comedy genre have managed to rake in the moolah at the box office.

Joining the list is 'Naduvula Konjam Pakkathai Kanom' (NKPK). Directed by debutant filmmaker Balaji Tharanitharan, the film is apparently based on a real-life incident.

It is about a young man who forgets a few days of his life, even as he is about to get married. According to the director, the story is inspired from the life of his cinematographer Premkumar.

With a handful of characters, the director has managed to weave a hilarious entertainer with no lag in the script anywhere.

Vijay Sethupathy of 'Pizza' fame plays the lead role with '18 Vayasu' fame Gayathri as his ladylove. The rest are all new faces and they manage to strike a chord with the characters that they portray.

Kudos to Balaji Tharanitharan as he has extracted the best from the team. Rajkumar, Vigneswaran and Bhagawathy Perumal play the hero's friends.

The movie boasts of a strong technical team that comprises of camera work by Premkumar and music by Ved Shankar, an alumni of Rahman's KM Conservatory School of Music and background score by Siddharth Vipin.

With Vijay Sethupathy shouldering the major burden and thanks to the hilarious dialogues by Balaji, the movie ends up a laughathon, that deserves a must watch.

Prem (Vijay Sethupathy) is all set to get married to his lover Dhanalakshmi (Gayathri). A day before his wedding, Prem decides to try his hand at playing cricket with his friends (Rajkumar, Vigneswaran and Bhagawathy Perumal).

The game gets little serious and Prem in a bid to catch a ball falls down only to get injured in his head. He quickly gets back on his toes as the injury is no serious.

But soon after the match, the friends are in for a shock. Prem forgets a few days of his life and develops short term memory loss wherein, he remembers his life till college and recognises his friends, but clueless about his marriage.

Fearing troubles, the friends take him to a doctor, who says that he will recover anytime. So the friends plan to keep him in their company, enact all drama till he ties the wedding knot, with a hope that he would get back his memory.

The sequence of events wherein the friends try hide Prem's problem to his parents, lover and take him to wedding hall, convince him to marry Dhanalakshmi, bring the roof down with laughter.

No doubt Vijay Sethupathy is the real scene stealer. The young actor who played a youth terrorised by ghosts in 'Pizza' takes to a hilarious turn in 'NKPK'.

His blank expressions and efforts to identify his friends are hilarious. Rajkumar, Vigneswaran and Bhagawathy Perumal are tailor-made for their roles.

Gayathri has little to do in the film, which is more about a group of friends and their efforts to achieve their mission.

Premkumar's camera is the movie's backbone. It captures well each and every moment of a youth, who loses his memory till his wedding. The night life of the city and the hospitals are also well canned.

Ved Shankar's background score is good, keeping pace with the script. Govindaraj's editing deserves a special mention.

At a time when mindless masalas are the order of the day, a movie like 'NKPK' provides a whiff of fresh air. The movie is simple, straightforward and hilarious. Three cheers to the whole team for making a clean and a good entertainer
