The cast and crew of 'Nanban' have thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, for offering the government's support to meaningful movies. Newspaper advertisements of the film today carried a photograph of the CM, with lines expressing the team's gratitude to her.

The Shankar directed film, which has Vijay, Jiiva and Srikanth in the lead roles, has emerged the first movie to be granted entertainment tax waiver, after the AIADMK led by Jayalalithaa came to power in May last year.

Thanking the Chief Minister for the government's gesture, the advertisement read: "The Chief Minister has always been supporting meaningful movies. We specially thank her on behalf of everyone who had worked for Nanban."

As per the new rules from the TN government, a movie applying for tax exemption should have a 'U' certificate from the Regional Censor Board and should keep within Tamil culture and sensibility. Since a 22-member committee felt 'Nanban' followed all the rules, it recommended the movie fit to be exempted from tax (30%).
