Looks like the curfew by Tamil Film Producers Council that big films should only be released on eight occasions a year is benefiting small films. For, a whopping number of nine flicks are set to see the light of the day this Friday.

They are Prakash Raj's maiden directorial venture in Tamil 'Dhoni', Sonia Agarwal's comeback movie 'Oru Nadigaiyin Vaakumoolam', 'Vilayada Vaa', 'Oru Mazhai Naangu Chaaral', 'Soozhnilai', 'Rudraboomi', 'Vachathi', 'Engada Unga Mandhiri' and 'Uchithanai Mugarndhal'.

Out of the above nine, the first eight are hitting the screens for the first time, while 'Uchithanai Mugarndhal', a movie on the plight of a Sri Lankan Tamil girl, is being re-released this Friday, backed by Tamil organizations and activists.

Says a distributor, "This month as many as 21 films are gearing up to see theatres. This is because of the availability of cinema halls, which were normally occupied by movies starring big heroes or made by leading producers or directors."
