A potential hat-trick
Tuesday, January 24, 2012 • Telugu Comments

Thaman keeps the momentum alive.  After Businessman and Bodyguard, Nippu is a hat-trick with a couple of potential chartbusters.  It is interesting to listen to his instrumentation and peppy interludes in song after song.

Nippu has quite some good lyrics and a host of of the writers, including Ananth Sriram, Bhaskarabhatla, Chandrabose, Vanamali, Ramajogayya Sastry and Viswa chip in with their poetic touch.

Alibaba

Artist: Javed Ali
Lyrics: Viswa

Alibaba is different in that it assumes varied hues in the course of the song.  Javed Ali's Chakri-like vocals make the song earthen, while Thaman fills the song with interludes that have a comic touch.  Viswa's lyrics are simple and catchy.

Dhiya Dhiya

Artist: Rahul Nambiar, Sri Krishna, Deepu, Krishna Chaitanya, Geetha Madhuri, Sudha, Hima Bindhu, Parnika
Lyrics: Ananth Sriram

The instrumentation and vocals combine to lend this 'family' song that Dethadi Dethadi number from Dookudu.  The eight singers and the musician belt out a hummable song.

Duba Duba

Artist: Thaman
Lyrics: Bhaskarabhatla

Thaman entertains with his vocals as well as composing.  The song grows on you as you hear it for the second time.  Bhakarabhatla's lyrics are not novel, but Thaman concocts a spin with his music.

Nena Ninnu

Artists: Karthik, Chitra
Lyrics: Vanamali

This song wins because of the electronic instrument riffs and rhythms, not to forget Chitra's magical vocals.  Karthik is not far behind, but it is vintage Chitra who enriches the proceedings.  Thaman scores a sure-shot chartbuster, complete with a soothing choral humming.  Indeed, the catchiest song of the album.

Oy Pilla

Artist: Tippu, Harini
Lyrics: Ramajogayya Sastry

This song is once again proves that Tippu's voice is tailor-made for Ravi Teja.  Harini's vocals have an electrical ring.  Above all, Thaman musical binge is extraordinary.  As hard as you try to hum Oy Pilla, it eludes you.  Listen it to feel it.

Slokam

Artist: Sravana Bhargavi

What is a Gunasekhar film without that Hindu devotional/cultural touch?  Maha Ganapathim by Sravana Bhargavi is inspiring, while Thaman's background score is experimental.

Vega Vega

Artist: Shankar Mahadevan
Lyrics: Chandrabose

Shankar Mahadevan must have had a ball time singing this unconventional number.  Though this is not the best one in the album, it stands out because Thaman follows a less-trodden path here.  Chandrabose delineates high brow preaching in a simple language.  Gunasekhar's films have always had a positive song; Nippu is no exception.
