Nishabd

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Hindi Comments

Some love stories are not meant to be understood. Especially those that defy so-called social norms and traditions.

'Nishabd' is one such love story that arrives with no intentions of shocking you. Instead it arrives as a tale that is way above the moral settings and just narrates the series of incidents that happen between a 60 year old man and an 18 year old girl.

60 year old man? Vijay [Amitabh Bachchan]

18 year old girl? Jiah [Jiah Khan]

And then the unthinkable happened. Love.

Love, which was beyond boundaries that have been set since time immemorial

Love, which none could see coming and it still happened

Love, which was never meant to be understood

Vijay was a much married man with a wife [Revathi] and a grown up daughter. A wild life photographer by profession, he saw Jiah for the first time when she came to his place to spend her holidays with his daughters.

It certainly wasn't love at first sight. It couldn't be after all.

But then the two started getting closer to each other. Well, at least Jiah did.

Uninhibited and carefree, Jiah soon found herself getting attracted to Vijay. What was this attraction? Something which was unexplainable and never heard before.

While Jiah was prompt at confessing her love for Vijay as it became uncontrollable for her to hide her feelings, for him it was a dilemma that was unprecedented.

The two started spending more time together and had some of the best moments in the picturesque town. They clicked photographs, danced together, had laughter and for both, it was an experience that could never have been replicated.

And soon, it was time for Vijay to admit the truth. The fact that even he was in love with Jiah!

An all around shock followed.

No one knew when did this love begin? No one knew where this love would be headed to.

No one was required to know any of that - Not just the family of Vijay, but even him and Jiah.

Because some stories are not meant to be understood. They are meant to be just like that. A story.

Something which is not really talked out.

Something which is 'nishabd'.

Produced and directed by Ram Gopal Verma, 'Nishabd' was completed last year itself in a matter of a month. The film arrives this Friday i.e. March 02
