Expectations

At one point, Sonakshi Sinha was known for being the lucky mascot of all the blockbuster masala films. She slowly shifted her base and started focusing on meaningful films, where she could display her potential as an actor.

'Lootera' and 'Akira' are perfect examples of such films. These movies were not blockbuster hits, but managed to recover its basic cost and made a right impact on its targeted audience.

Sonakshi's latest film 'Noor', also belongs to the same genre. Though, the expectations are not that great as the songs are average and so is the trailer. It's just the good will of her last movies have raised some amount of curiosity among the urban audience.

Story

'Noor' is a story of a young journalist Noor Roy Chaudhary (Sonakshi Sinha), who is struggling through her personal and professional life. She hates her life as her boss Shekhar Das (Manish Chaudhary) does not give her any real news to cover, her best friends Saad (Kanan Gill) and Zara (Shibani Dandekar) are enjoying their private as well as professional life, her personal life is in drain due to her weight issues and so on. Ayan Banerjee (Purab Kohli) comes up as a sunshine in Noor's life. Noor starts to enjoy her personal followed by professional life. But, life takes a drastic change and turns Noor’s world upside down.

The 'Glitz' Factor

The story is based on Pakistani author Saba Imtiaz's novel 'Karachi, You're Killing Me'. It's sweet, simple and narrated in a light manner. The narrative part in the first half is warm, chirpy and engaging. There are many good scenes featuring Sonakshi, Kanan, Purab and Manish. The finale track makes you think many things as it tries to highlight many key important factors related to Mumbai city.

The camera and the shot placements work as an additional screenplay for the movie. It also gives the movie a refreshing feel. Dialogues are enjoyable and works in the favour of the film. 'Gulabi 2.0' works only due to the nostalgic flavour. The background music is perfect.

Director Sunhil Sippy had debuted with a lesser known film 'Snipp' in 2010. He returns back with yet another urban tale, but this time it has the coming-of-age track related to a working woman. The whole plot and theme is different and will be connectable with the young working women.

Sonakshi Sinha slips easily into the skin of her character.PurabKohli and Manish Chaudhary are good in their parts.Kanan Gill is decent.

The 'Non-Glitz' Factor

The central part of the film drags on a snail pace with a lame London visit track, which was totally unrequired and irrelevant with the flow of the film.If only the screenplay would have been more tight and impactful in the second half, the end results would had been outstanding. The slow pace in the second half keeps testing your patience level.

The music is decent, but not that great. Such movies need fantastic songs which go perfectly with the mood of the film.'Move Your Lakk' in end credits featuring Diljit Dosanjh and Badshah was totally unwanted. The movie wobbles out there and keeps dragging and a bit boring for a while.

Kanan Gill still has lots of things to learn. Shibani Dandekar, Suchitra Pillai and M.K Raina are wasted. Sunny Leone's cameo was not up to the mark.

Final 'Glitz'

'Noor' is a straight forward tale of an urban girl dealing with her life and problems. The movie will be loved by urban girls as the connectivity will be very high. As, for rest the slow pace might be a problem for this one time watch film.
